Laser Mapping
Research. 2022 - 2023
Ancient cultures watched the stunning spectacle of stars in the dark sky, finding a way to conceive time, predict seasons and draft calendars. Sky became the divine kingdom of gods and goddesses, while science used it to develop global navigation techniques, until conquering the space and orbital telecommunications. Nowadays humanity has lost the night sky. Light pollution in our cities make it impossible to stare at the stars and conjure the old stories told by the constellations.
By creating an immersive experience we aim to recover this universal heritage that expands beyond human civilizations, rising awareness about the loss of our cities’ night sky dark beauty. A ritual of artistic expression, technology and natural phenomena.
ASTRES is an ongoing research in the intersection of art and science. Using laser projection mapping, spatialized audio and the stars of the firmament on the night sky, the project aims to highlight the beauty of the cosmos and recover an ancient sight uppon the stars.
