Sonògraf

El "Sonògraf" és un instrument audiovisual electrònic.

Encarregat per Red Planea per les escoles públiques de primària del País Valencià, està concebut com una ferramenta d'aprenentatge musical. Permet transformar dibuixos o collages en música, convertint els traços gestuals i les figures geomètriques en sons electrònics. Un conjunt de botons i potenciòmetres permeten la manipulació en directe de les característiques de "sonificació" del dibuix, fent possible accelerar, frenar o aturar la música resultant, així com decidir-ne les escales i tonalitats.

El Sonògraf incorpora sortides d'àudio i vídeo que permeten no només practicar l'instrument de manera íntima, sinó també escenificar-lo en un concert audiovisual per a tots els públics.

La concepció, l'enginyeria i el disseny de Sonògraf s'han cuidat perquè tothom pugui gaudir del joc de manera intuïtiva, oferint un nou paradigma per entendre l'escriptura musical i allunyant-se de l'hermetisme de la notació "tradicional" basada en pentagrames.

És una eina per aprendre música de manera intuïtiva; allunyat de les complexitats "acadèmiques", i que vincula el món de l'expressió plàstica amb l'expressió musical.

Sonògraf és un encàrrec produit pel Consorci de Museus de la Comunitat Valenciana a través de Planea Red de Arte y Escuela.

The "Sonògraf" is an electronic audiovisual instrument.

Commisioned by Red Planea for public primary schools in the Valencian Country, it is conceived as a music learning tool. It allows drawings or collage to be transformed into music, turning gestural strokes and geometric figures into electronic sounds. A set of buttons and potentiometers allow live manipulation of the "sonification" characteristics of the drawing, making it possible to speed up, slow down or pause the resulting music, as well as decide its scales and tonalities.

The Sonògraf incorporates audio and video outputs, making it possible not only to practice the instrument intimately, but also to stage it in an audiovisual concert for all audiences.

The conception, engineering and design of Sonògraf has been taken care of so that everyone can enjoy playing intuitively, offering a new paradigm for understanding musical writing and moving away from the hermeticism of "traditional" notation based on staves.

It is a tool for learning music intuitively; away from "academic" complexities, and which links the world of plastic expression with musical expression.

GUTHMAN COMPETITION PRIZE:

In March 2024, Sonògraf received a People Choice Award and a jury honorary mention at the Guthman Musical Instrument Competition, held at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, US. The Guthman prize is the most prestigious recognition to new developments in musical instrument oriented technology, and every year a selection of 8 to 10 projects coming from all corners of the world compete for this recognition.
