Terrasses CNC’ed beech wood. 48x48x5 cm Coded in Processing - JAVA We’ve been invited to exhibit at the third edition of MAGBA (Museu d’Art Generatiu de BArcelona) during July and August 2026, together with many other generative artists (Julien Gachadoat (V3ga), Anna Carreras, Citlali Hernández, Xavi Lozano...) and we prepared a couple of new sculptural pieces for the occasion, based on digital fabrication techniques. The exhibition, hosted by @paloaltobarcelona and named “Orígens”, proposes a dialogue between pioneering computational artworks of the 70’s and today’s algorithmic art, through the reinterpretaion and recoding of classical pieces that appeared at the “Computer Graphics and Art” magazine. https://magba.art/magba3/ Terrasses, based on a recoding of Random Squares by Bill Kolomyjec, organizes the plane into a grid of square cells. Each cell contains a variable number of concentric squares whose centers shift incrementally in a given direction, generating an internal drift. As a variation of the original, each square is filled with grayscale values, establishing a direct correspondence between luminance and depth. This operation transforms the composition into a relief map, where tonal levels translate into topographic strata. A certain probability threshold allows the combination of multiple adjacent cells into a single one. The result is materialized as a CNC-milled relief in beech wood.
